Window Dressing Competition

Shops and businesses in Oban and Tobermory have embraced the West Highland Yachting Week Window Dressing Competition with 16 entries from Oban and 14 in Tobermory. After a number of years absence in Oban the Joint Regatta Committee is delighted so many shop fronts have been decorated in the spirit of the week. Winners will receive a variety of prizes with the winning window in Oban receiving a celebratory cake made by Elaine’s Cakes to mark the return of the competition to Oban.

JRC chairman David Waltho said ‘Oban has been a venue for WHYW for 64 years. It’s one of the biggest sailing events in the UK bringing a huge economic benefit to both Oban and Tobermory. Not only do we bring competitors to this spectacle of sail but many visitors also come to view the event. Already we have had excellent feedback on the window dressing with many businesses going to great lengths to produce excellent displays.’ He added: ‘In Oban’s bicentennial year it is fitting that the town links in partnership with events like West Highland Yachting Week since Oban has a fundamental association with the sea.’

The theme has been left to individual shops as long as it ties in with WHYW and there is an additional competition of ‘Spot The Sponsor’ open to both competitors and the community to see how many sponsors’ products can be found in each window.

Entry forms for the Spot the Sponsor in both towns are available from each participating shop and also from the Race Caravan during the event or contacting Alison Chadwick on 01631 565213.
