Tobermory Whisky Gets On Board for WHYW

TOBERMORY Single Malt Scotch Whisky is delighted to announce its sponsorship support of West Highland Yachting Week 2010. This year’s event marks 63 years of this historic, prestigious and popular regatta and takes place between 30th of July and 6th August. It is Scotland’s second largest yachting event and is a unique ‘moving regatta’ based around Craobh, Oban and Tobermory.

West Highland Yachting Week also receives sponsorship from Tunnocks, Argyll and Bute Council and Caledonian MacBrayne. West Coast Motors provide transport during the event.

Welcoming Tobermory Single Scotch Whisky as an additional sponsor WHYW Joint Regatta Committee chairman David Waltho said: ‘Whisky distilling and sailing go back centuries on the west coast and it’s really nice to have a good West Highland whisky brand in partnership with our unique West Highland event. It is also particularly appropriate to have Tobermory Single Scotch Whisky aboard West Highland Yachting Week given Tobermory is one of our regatta’s most popular venues. We are looking forward to a close association between the brand and our regatta.’

Tobermory Distillery is situated in the small village of Tobermory - an iconic sailor’s haven on the stunning Isle of Mull. The distillery itself will provide the perfect location for some of the social events which will take place during the regatta. This partnership will allow Tobermory to align itself with a prestigious event and provide the perfect platform to promote the award winning brand to participants.

Katherine Crisp, Tobermory Brand Manager commented: ‘We are delighted to be involved with such a respected event in the sailing calendar. There is a strong association between whisky and sailing, in particular with Tobermory whose history is steeped in stories of adventures at sea including the Spanish Galleon, whose treasure is reportedly still sitting at the bottom of the bay. The distillery looks forward to welcoming both competitors and spectators to enjoy a dram or two.
