Tunnock’s back on board for 2010 event

Tunnock’s is back on board with West Highland Yachting Week, Scotland’s second largest yachting event that runs from July 30th to August 6th 2010. The famous biscuit makers have confirmed they will be supporting the Week for the 63rd running of this equally famous regatta. And Tobermory Single Malt Scotch Whisky is also to support the event this year as well as the Oban Common Good Fund. Caledonian MacBrayne hosts the popular Skippers Reception with West Coast Motors also helping out with transport during the week and BP Marine with fuel. The event is shaping up to give an even wider appeal for 2010 for both spinnaker and white sail fleets with an extensive range of classes on offer. Tobermory Distillery is hosting an open day on Thursday when the fleet is in Tobermory.

Tunnock’s

Boyd Tunnock, managing director of Tunnock’s is an enthusiast and past competitor at West Highland Yachting Week and the Joint Regatta Committee is delighted to welcome back the support of the company for the event. In addition West Coast Motors has confirmed they will be offering the same transport service between Dunstaffnage Marina and Oban. Colin Craig of WCM said they would operate the bus service to help facilitate the circulation of competitors between headline events and around Oban. The famous open-topped double decker will also have the Oban High School Pipe Band touring the town on Monday evening prior to the Skippers Reception.

More Classes

The Joint Regatta Committee has confirmed there will be separate CYCA and IRC racing in Classes 1 and 3 at the 2010 regatta. Announcing the extended range of classes JRC secretary Julia Heap said there would be a Class 1a for CYCA handicaps 10.75 minutes and below and Class 1b for IRC handicaps 1.027 and above, both racing under Pennant 1. Similarly Class 3a will have CYCA handicaps 11.0 to 13.75 minutes with Class 3b for IRC handicaps 1.026 and below. This is being introduced after the success of the first IRC class brought in last year with feedback indicating the demand for more IRC divisions at this level of fleet racing. Class 2 will remain a restricted sail class for CYCA handicaps 11.0 minutes and below with Class 4 restricted sail for CYCA handicaps 11.25 to 13.75 minutes. Class 5 is now for CYCA handicaps 14.0-15.5 minutes, Class 6 for restricted sail for CYCA 14.0-16.75 minutes and Class 7 is CYCA handicaps 15.75-19.0. Class 8 sees the biggest division from CYCA 19.25 to 28.0 with Class 9 restricted sail from CYCA 17.0-28.0 minutes. Julia added that in response to comments from the 2009 event the Joint Regatta Committee is tightening up on class switching and the Points Series scoring.
