GIGHA has a double entertainment special on for the start of Tennents West Highland Yachting Week that takes place from July 31st to August 7th 2009.
Competitors from the south and Ireland mustering for the feeder race to Craobh will be treated to a fine selection of music from the Gigha Players in the Gigha Hotel on Friday July 31. And, as part of the Ceilidh Trail following the footsteps of Columba, there will be a collaboration of Scottish and Irish musicians playing in the Gigha Village Hall with a photographic presentation, and storytelling.
The feeder race starts at 0900 the following day to Craobh with a good entry anticipated for the 31 mile course.
Meanwhile the other feeder race for the regatta takes place from Inverkip on Friday July 31 with a course of around 35 miles to Ardrishaig, again kicking off at 0900hrs. This enables competitors from the Clyde to follow the inshore route and navigate the Crinan Canal to head on up to Craobh marina for the start of the week. Boats from the north start at Oban at 1200hrs on Saturday August 1.
Julia Heap, Joint Regatta Secretary said the entry for the 62nd regatta was building fast. ‘We have had a lot of enquiries from the south coast for chartering options this year, showing the popularity of the regatta is spreading. We are also hoping that some of the boats in the area for the Crinan Classic will return to take part this year that marks the 30th and final anniversary of the partnership between Tennent Caledonian Breweries and the Regatta. Everyone is very much looking forward to the event.’
